Some in the church have erroneously taught that blessing those who curse you is giving them money. NO IT IS NOT. When we look at 1 Peter 3:9 if we look it up in it's proper context in essence it's to speak the opposite of a curse. The point is spiritual. Let's get into it by looking at 1 Peter 3:9
The NIRV COMMENTARY SAYS:
but contrariwise blessing;
praying for a blessing on them; for if we are to do so for our enemies, for them that hate us, despitefully use and persecute us, as did Christ, Stephen the protomartyr, and the apostles, then much more our fellow Christians who may do us an injury or speak evil of us, or to us: who seem to be chiefly intended: the argument to persuade to it follows,
In other words it's speaking the opposite.
ELLIOTS COMMENTARY FOR ENGLISH READERS SAYS:
But contrariwise blessing.—No doubt a reminiscence of the Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5:44). The word “blessing” here is not substantive, but a participle, opposed to “rendering:” “not rendering them evil or railing, but on the contrary blessing them.” Though the word is chosen as the exact opposite of the bad language used against the Christians, “blessing” may perhaps involve the opposite of unkind action as well. It is used for the conferring of benefits: (1) spiritual, in Acts 3:26; Galatians 3:8; (2) material, in 2Corinthians 9:5,
But if someone decides to give 2 Corinthians 9:5 is the standard...
Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. 2 Corinthians 5:9
If God has not told you to give anything, then you should not give. If you're being pressured to give, then you should not give. If someone is forcing you to give or manipulating you to give, you should not give. GOD IS NO WHERE IN THIS.
If you give by force or coercion or against your will...God will not honor it. We have so many in the body of Christ today miss using and miss quoting scriptures, and saying something that God never said. Remember, anything done against your will or what God told you to do is witchcraft at work in your life.
The key to stopping this abuse is in applying the word of God that says...whatever YOU have DECIDED IN YOUR HEART. God WILL HONOR THIS! Do NOT GIVE over and ABOVE WHAT YOU HAVE DECIDED IN YOUR HEART! Be a wise steward and ONLY GIVE ON GODS INTRUCTIONS AND WHAT YOU HAVE DECIDED IN YOUR HEART!
Put it like this. God would never tell you to drink poison water. God would never tell you plant into bad soil. He wouldn't tell you to breathe polluted air or stay in it. And He will never tell you to give into a curse.
If this is the case I'm sure people would go around cursing at every Christian and then opening their pockets for a 'blessing'.
What are some other ways to bless those who cures you?
Pray for their salvation.
Speak the opposite of the curse.
Speak blessings on their children.
Speak blessings for their salvation.
Speak blessings for their life.
In actions they show hate you show kindness of tone and posture. Hate is only two ways that's in speech and actions. So where does giving money come in at? It doesn't. Not in scripture.
Pray for their needs that God would send someone that He has given the burden for them to bless them.
We can bless people and not always have to come out of our pocket. Unless we feel God is saying this AND we do it cheerfully. If not KEEP THE MONEY...if it's forced God won't honor it anyway and it's probably WHY you never see a return. God does understand your 'heart' but He will multiply YOUR OBEDIENCE.
Before you give into anyone who is cursing you..aside from reversing the curse by pronouncing a blessing. Pray and see if God is saying anything else. If He is not...then keep your pockets closed. God will also multiply you being a WISE STEWARD!
It just may be they need a financial blessing...but maybe God doesn't want it coming from YOU.
Remember...pray without ceasing...in all things...SEEK GOD FIRST. When they curse you SPEAK THAT BLESSING.
My prayer for you today is wisdom to obey God and don't give money every time somebody treats you bad, or curses you. Give them prayers. The prayers of the righteous avails much. Heaven hears you and heaven knows how to respond best. Remember you are not their God or their source. But if God tells you to give..and your heart posture is correct.
