Inspired by, Why Obey God
Now Rebekah was listening to what Isaac told his son Esau. So when Esau went into the field to hunt game and bring it back, Rebekah said to her son Jacob, “Behold, I overheard your father saying to your brother Esau, ‘Bring me some game and prepare me a tasty dish to eat, so that I may bless you in the presence of the LORD before I die.’ Now, my son, listen to my voice and do exactly as I tell you to Go out to the flock and bring me two choice young goats, so that I can make them into a tasty dish for your father—the kind he loves. Then take it to your father to eat, so that he may bless you before he dies.”
Disguise and deception are themes that appear throughout the bible. They highlight the moral and spiritual implications of the deceitful actions that are made by those who love God, those who are used by God, and those who are older training younger. And so when we look at the bible we see the propensity for deception in every area of life. No matter if it's old or young, no matter if it's the trainer or the trainee. No matter if it's someone above you in leadership or below you. The human propensity to deceive someone for their benefit is alive and well. But one thing we also see is that divine responses of the Lord to such actions (will come). What do you need to know? Rebekah overheard Isaac and what he told his son Esau. She heard that he wanted to bless him. And rightfully so. But what she did was, because she was for her younger son, she went and took the same instructions(that Isaac told to Esau) and applied them to the son (Jacob) that Isaac did not tell. And why did she do that? Why did she deceive? Because she wanted to get the blessing for her younger son. And not the older son. Now, mind you this (deception) was prophesied. But the point we're trying to make here is my friends, you must understand that no matter what the position or title, whether it's your parents or your church leaders, they have the propensity to deceive and God wants us to know that. That they have the ability, especially if you put so much trust and faith in what they say, as opposed to what God says. Since we know deception is there (available at any moment) we must learn to alert ourselves. And attune our ears to the ears(and mouth) of the Lord. what the Lord has spoken for us. Our Jeremiah 29:11 ...aligning to what The Lord has said about our lives. If not, we can be deceived because we honor the person even if the words of God have left the person's mouth. And it now becomes their words, for their benefit. My question to you today is, how is your discernment? Can you hear the voice of God through the voice of that leader? Through the voice of that co-worker? Through the voice of that person who you trust so much? Or are you blindly following things that may not be of God, that do not align with your Jeremiah 29:11, and that will lead you astray for many years?
