Jesus immediately reaches out his hand and saves Peter after Peter begins to sink while walking on water. Jesus then rebukes Peter, saying, "O you of little faith, why did you doubt?".
Matthew 14:31
When I heard the story of Peter walking on water when I was a kid it was exciting. I was like wow! But as I begin to get older and the more I heard it the more I thought Hmm. Why did Peter start and stop. I mean its crazy that He even got out of the boat. I mean, he should at least get credit for that. So...if it was only for a belief moment then he obviously had more faith than anyone else. So I found it interesting that Jesus said little faith. Little faith, how can his faith be little? So I was inspired to look up the word 'little.' When I did I saw four definitions. The first definition is the most commonly used. 'Anything small, brief, young, or unimportant 'But the second one...this is the first time I've heard it this way. And it gave me another aha moment. The second definition of little means brief. Wait...follow me. It means short in duration. So what if Jesus was saying..O you whose faith is short in duration. It's too brief. You started to sink because you didn't have faith that could last. This does it for me. Jesus said, you didn't believe long enough. Wait...what?!! This changed the game for me. Because this was me. At some points in my life after time passed I just gave up certain prophecies because my faith couldn't last long enough. Am I the only one? Yes, I started walking on water and things started coming together...but then things came against me to cause me to doubt. Crazy! If this is you today I want to encourage you to lengthen your faith. If God spoke it He will surely bring it to pass. You gotta dig in with no distractions and focus on your Jeremiah 29:11. Peter was not entertaining the disciples, and what they said, who wanted him to get back in the boat, who wanted him to help them out cuz they were in a storm...no, he fixed his eyes on Jesus and he stepped out of the boat. What a mind shift. Today is a great day to pick up your faith, eliminate distractions(of people, places, and things), and step into your Jeremiah 29:11. And do it until you see it manifest in the earth. God expects your faith to be longer this time. My friends it's time to FOCUS FORWARD. Grace
