Inspired by, Why Obey God
Sometimes it's hard not to think about past achievements, relationships, experiences, goals, and failures. Because they have shaped and molded our now. But what happens when it's time to 'reach for the new'? In all honesty we needed those experiences but they should not distract us from our future. This is what apostle Paul was saying to us in this verse. Our past is a stepping stone to our future. We don't forget everything that happened but we also don't let it hinder or control our future. 'Forgetting' is not about erasing our memory but removing distractions to destiny. Apostle Paul understood how the past can be debilitating if we let it. Apostle Paul tells us to 'strain forward'. Why does he do this? There was some things he knew about our past that if we let it, would hinder our future and destiny. Only distractions want you to 'spin the block' and 'get that old thing back'. But the truth is that old things are old for a reason. We have to learn to be done when God is done. If not, we subject ourselves to a malicious cycle of time loss, abuse, and repetitive ...I never should've done that. Apostle Paul knew things that were behind would pull on our desires, distract us, and keep us from destiny. Part of what forgetting what is behind us is forgiving ourselves for what we allowed or did not allow. For what we chose or did not choose. For what we obeyed or did not obey. Forgiving ourselves will unlock a lot of healing so that we can become healthy, we can become whole and continue to press for destiny. My friends, yesterday is gone. Even if your past is yelling and screaming at you that ...that things will be different now...or telling you it's your fault you didn't comply....the truth is you weren't meant to. Our past is meant to shape us for our future. Forging ahead can be lonely and painful at times. But necessary. What lies ahead is what we've been waiting for all of our life. My friends, there is coming a moment where your past will make sense because you've left it to pursue your future. Making memories and monuments are two different things. There is a finish line called destiny waiting for you. Get excited about your Jeremiah 29:11, because God is.
