And the Lord said unto Samuel, How long wilt thou mourn for Saul, seeing I have rejected him from reigning over Israel? fill thine horn with oil, and go, I will send thee to Jesse the Bethlehemite: for I have provided me a king among his sons.

1 Samuel 16:1

Most people have read the account in the Bible where Saul was anointed King over God's nation by Samuel. God chose a prophet and a king to rule His nation. When two people share such an important and divine journey, it's inevitable to bond like Samuel and Saul did.  Remember this was God's story that tied them together... this divine connection was something God allowed and paired. But, we find Saul in continued disobedience and rebellion to the Lord, so the Lord then rejected Saul as King. Saul's sacrifice became more important to himself than obeying God. And so God then rejects Saul. And after God rejects Saul, Samuel mourns. So what's wrong with Samuel mourning? Samuel mourning  isn't the problem. But when God asks a question it isn't because He doesn't know the answer. God will ask a question to reveal a problem. The problem is how do we handle life when God decides to move on from something or someone we love? Something or someone that we've grown attached to? We love this thing but God says, I don't want it. See this toxic relationship between Saul, Samuel and God's people had gone on long enough. And before Saul destroyed God's nation; God removed Him and moved on. God cared more about the future of His nation rather than the feelings of His prophet. God asked the question because He wanted His prophet to understand that you can't step into the new thing when you're still giving your emotions, thoughts, and energy to the old. So the question God is asking us today is,' How long will you mourn what God doesn't want? What do you need to release so that you can embrace God's new?'
